Dear Barry and Valerie:

Thank you for contacting me about H.R. 235, the Social Security Fairness Act of 2009. I appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts on this issue.

As you may know, H.R. 235 was introduced by Congressman Howard Berman on January 7, 2009. This legislation would amend the Old Age, Survivors and Disability Insurance (OASDI) provision of the Social Security Act in regards to federal employees. Specifically, H.R. 235 would repeal government pension offset requirements applicable to a spouse's insurance benefits, widow's and widower's insurance benefits, and mother's and father's insurance benefits with respect to OASDI payments; and windfall elimination requirements with respect to calculation of an individual's primary insurance amount.

You may be interested to know that I have signed on as a cosponsor of this legislation. Please know that I will continue to monitor this legislation closely and look forward to supporting it should it reach the House floor for a vote.

Again, thank you for contacting me on this issue. Please don't hesitate to contact me further should you have any additional questions, comments, or concerns on this or any other issue.

Sincerely,

Rick Larsen
