- LEOFF I Coalition
I was out of town on a vacation when the latest Coalition newsletter was circulated, hence the delay in publishing this article.
When I first read it, I was taken aback by it’s outrageous claims, inaccurate characterizations and the personalization of its attacks. I immediately published a warning advising LEOFF 1 members against donating any money to this organization.
I then sat down and developed a point-by-point review of the article with the intent of publishing it in segments as a response. The article grew to eight pages. I have decided not publish the article. Here’s why.
The issue of protecting and enhancing the LEOFF 1 pension plan is an important one. Over the last nine years, we have seen legislative attempts to gut the system. Bickering between organizations is not in the best interest of that cause.
It is unfortunate that the Coalition found it necessary to engage in such tactics. I think it because they have seen themselves lose their credibility as the founding organizations withdrew.
None-the-less, the Coalition does have a large treasury and some of the board members are genuinely committed to protecting the pension plan. I hope they will continue to step to the plate on issues that need support and that they will do a better job of managing the money that we have donated for that purpose.
They supported of the Swisher v Moses Lake lawsuit and they deserve recognition for doing the right thing in funding that suit.
Still, while we will try to avoid engaging in some sort of “he said – he said” contest, LEOFF1.Net will not shy from pointing out the inconsistencies in their actions or their misrepresentation of facts. They deserve credit when it is due. They should welcome criticism as well.
The Coalition no longer represents anyone, yet it claims it wants to do the right thing. Its only hope of understanding the wants and needs of LEOFF 1 members as a whole is to listen to those who express their concerns.
About that eight-page report – if you are interested in the analysis, please contact me directly. I would be happy to share my thoughts on that basis.

Good article, It is difficult for us to sort out the truth and what is fiction. Thanks for clearifing some of it for me. I still wish we had spouse medical or access to reasonable rates. i have to pay $850 for my wifes medical each month.
