As you have probably discerned from the various articles I have written about the LEOFF I Coalition both recently and over the years, we have some issues. Regardless of that I really do make a sincere effort to cover their actions completely and fairly. None-the-less, I do not hold the organization in high regard so it is only right that you read my Coalition articles in that context.

With the exception of a couple of Coalition board members, I believe they are a sincere lot. They just are not doing a good enough job of addressing important issues and properly managing the funds that you and I have donated to them.

That said, I am convinced that the Coalition’s recent move to change their basic structure is not only bad for the effort to protect the system but also bad for all LEOFF 1 members.

LEOFF1.Net now considers the organization crippled and floundering. They still have a lot of your money and there remains a chance that they may use some portion to fund the kinds of things we saw as important when we wrote them checks. But, given their spending patterns and upcoming proposals I do not hold much hope.

LEOFF1.Net will have diminished coverage of the Coalition as we go forward, but we will keep you up to date on their actions.

The organization no longer represents anyone except itself. You might try following their website to find out what they are doing, but don’t expect much. Today they did publish a one-paragraph article about the failure of the California initiative that called for a renegotiation of pension benefits. The initiative was a big issue in their annual report. At LEOFF1.Net we reviewed this issue and noted its failure on July 21st.  See the article...

LEOFF1.Net has a standing invitation to the Coalition.  We will publish, unedited, any article they choose to submit.  We think that it is only fair that they should have an equal forum to answer any concerns we might express.  They have never taken us up on the offer, but the offer is still there.
